Radar Rent a Car, San Salvador (SAL airport handover). One-month rental from 1 September 2026, US$600 paid up front. 2022 Nissan Versa, automatic, under 8,000 miles.
We landed a day late, at night, after a cancelled connection, and the car was still there. That is the whole review, really. Mario kept the handover alive through two schedule changes on WhatsApp, in Spanish, without fuss, and met us at the airport when we finally got in. Pickup itself was quick and the staff were helpful.
The car is better than the price suggests: nearly new, well specced for the class - auto-dimming headlights, the lot - and it has already earned its keep. We are on a stretch of coast with no cell signal and farms, cattle and crop land in every direction; without a car you are stuck. For comparison, a 2012 Kia was offered to us at $500 a month and agency rates started around $45 a day, so $600 for a month in a two-year-old car is fair.
One thing to check before you drive off: our tyres were close to bald on delivery. It is the rainy season here and the roads are better than you expect but the water is not. Look at the tread, ask for a swap if they are worn, and you will have no complaints.
Score: 4 / 5. Service 5, car 4, value 4, tyres 2.
